MRA1441 Supports a County Rent Freeze

MRA1441 Supports a County Rent Freeze

14.08.2018 /

At around 12:45 PM today, members of the MRA1441, Strategic Actions for a Just Economy (SAJE), Los Angeles Center for Community Law and Action (LACCLA), the Residents Association in Leisure Lake Mobile Estates from Antelope Valley, and Eastside Leadership for Equitable and Accountable Development Strategies (Leads) supported the Board of Supervisors in their efforts to pass a rent freeze in unincorporated LA County. As amended, the urgency clause has been redacted, allowing a 3 supervisor vote to pass the ordinance. The County will be Hearing this item again on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, for the second reading and final vote.

Board Votes:

  • 1st District Supervisor Hilda Solis: Aye
  • 2nd District Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas: Abstain
  • 3rd District Supervisor Sheila Kuehl: Aye
  • 4th District Supervisor Janice Hahn: Aye
  • 5th District Supervisor Kathryn Barger: No

The MRA1441 Supports the idea of a rent freeze but opposes the county departments' suggestion to allow a 3% automatic rent increase, and requests to include remedies for residents with long term leases. Come and support Mobilehome residents and other vulnerable individuals on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, in the Kenneth Hahn hall of Administration at 10:00 PM.
